Vicki Charlene Burkes Obituary
Enid, Oklahoma - Vicki Charlene Burkes, 75, of Enid, Oklahoma, passed away February 16, 2026, surrounded by family at her home.
Born February 8, 1951, in Enid to Charles Leroy Burkes and Wilmina Pearl Wiggins, Vicki was raised in Carmen, Oklahoma, building the foundation of the life she would go on to lead — and where she will be laid to rest.
What made Vicki special wasn't her intelligence, though she was a valedictorian. It wasn't her strength, though she was a standout basketball player. It wasn't her love of adventure, though she visited six continents, every U.S. state, and lived in Italy for over three years.
What defined Vicki was an uncompromising force of will.
While attending university, she was once called into the president's office over whom she should and shouldn't date, but no amount of pressure could ever sway her sense of right and wrong.
Vicki earned her bachelor's degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and later her master's degree from the University of Oklahoma — where she became a lifelong OU football fan and season ticket holder, cheering on the Sooners for over five decades with her mother, son, and niece Jordan.
She built a distinguished career as a social worker for the State of Oklahoma and later in a civilian capacity for the United States Air Force. In her work, she protected young children from unsafe homes, facing the worst of humanity with the best of her own.
Beyond her career, Vicki was a shield for friends and family, alike. Time and again, she helped those around her navigate hardship, offering wisdom, strength, and an unwavering belief that difficult seasons could be overcome.
Her family — children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews — are all heartbroken. But none would wish it away. It exists because of the love, kindness, and force of will she brought into every shared moment. Their pain marks her lasting impact.
She married Bradley Maurice Burke on February 19, 1983. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Vicki is survived by her son, Trenton Harrison Burke, and daughter-in-law, Sajdah Parveen Burke, of Birmingham, United Kingdom; her grandchildren, Daria and Reina; and an expected grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings, Terry Burkes, Johnny Burkes, Kim and husband Gary Olson, Jackie and husband Eddie Garcia, and Shawn and wife Lisa Burkes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her granddaughter, Freya.
A funeral service was held Saturday, February 21, with burial in Carmen, Oklahoma. Arrangements were under the direction of Wentworth Mortuary.
