Richard was a longtime member of FUMC, since 1994.

Richard Lundy entered the arms of Jesus on July 14, 2025, at the age of 94, after a full and blessed life. He was born in Arkansas City, KS, to Claude Henry and Ruth Mary Rogers Lundy on September 29, 1930.

Richard graduated from Parsons (KS) High School, then honorably served in the U.S. Navy as an Engineman Second Class aboard the USS Guavina 362 Submarine from May 1950 to May 1953. He was very proud of his military service and had many stories to tell.

Richard came back to Parsons, KS, and enrolled in the Junior College, where he met the love of his life, Lois Jean Edgell Lundy, and they married July 10, 1955, in Parsons, KS. They were married for 62 wonderful years until her passing in 2017. He missed her terribly after she was gone. They started a family in 1956 and had five boys — Steve, David, Doug, Alan, and James — then later adopted their grandson, Michael, as their son.

Richard graduated from Kansas University in May 1958 with a Petroleum Engineering degree. Immediately after graduation he accepted a Petroleum Engineer position with Atlantic Richfield Oil Company to effectively remove oil from the ground. He continued with ARCO for 30 years and moved his family to many scenic places in Texas: Andrews, Corpus Christi, Denver City, and Gainesville, and finally to Enid, OK, where he continued working until retirement as a Senior Area Production Supervisor.

Scouting was very important to Richard; as a boy he learned many life lessons from his Boy Scout Troop that he carried into adulthood. One of the lessons was to serve others, and as a father of five sons he started a Boy Scout Troop and served as the Scoutmaster. His sons and many other boys joined the Troop. At one point, all seven family members were involved in the Boy Scouts. Over the years, his leadership inspired over ten boys to earn the coveted Eagle Scout Award. Richard continued his involvement in the Boy Scouts throughout his many relocations.

Richard and Jean maintained many close friendships with great family friends over the years and moves. They enjoyed country western dancing and square dancing, camping, and holidays with family. They supported each other with grace and humor throughout difficult times and good times.

Richard had a love and talent for woodworking, including making furniture and many other items. He made the large, round kitchen table, still in use today, that comfortably seats seven people. He then made an amazing, tile, inlay turntable to sit in the middle of the table so everyone could reach the food.

He was passionate about giving blood to help others and gave hundreds of blood donations. He was proud and loved his T-shirt collection he received from giving blood. One of Richard's favorite sayings, if you were debating whether to do something or not, was "I think you should." He loved his coffee and would drink it day or night, a habit his sons also picked up.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Ruth Lundy; sister, Claudette Reed; his beloved wife Jean; and sons, Steve and James. Richard is survived by son David and wife Dorothy Lundy of Brownwood, TX, son Doug Lundy of Enid, son Alan and wife Angela Lundy of Valley View, TX; grandson, Michael and wife Aerin Lundy of Enid; grandchildren, Jamie Stephens of Richmond, IN, Dr. Christina Blumer of Cypress, TX, Jessica Lundy-Wagner of Silver Spring, MA, Chad Lundy of Clayton, OK, Kathryn Lundy of Oklahoma City, Zachary Lundy of Roland, OK, Lizzie Lundy of West Valley, UT; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations in Richard's name can be made to the Salvation Army, because they sponsored his beloved Boy Scout troop when he was a boy.
