Pauline Marie (Kadavy) Verhines, 86, of Kingfisher, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018. The Funeral Service is 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Kingfisher. The Reverend Patrick McPherson is officiating, with burial to follow in Kingfisher Cemetery.
She was born September 4, 1931, in Kingfisher County to Jerry and Mary (Skarky) Kadavy. She graduated from Big 4 High School in 1949.
She married Clifton Verhines on September 11, 1949, in Kingfisher. They were married for 68 years and both credit the Lord Jesus Christ for their successful marriage.
After raising their three children, Pauline went to work at Pioneer Telephone Company, alongside Clifton. Pauline was a Christian, longtime sponsor of UMYF, quilter, seamstress, baker, cook, artist, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She loved basketball. She was recruited by the All-American Red Heads in high school. She went to all of her kids' sporting events; she attended nearly every basketball game of her grandkids, and even her great-grandkids. Plus, she loved watching all the Thunder basketball games.
Pauline loved quilting and sewing. In her later years, she quilted baby blankets and crocheted hats for the Infant Crisis Services in Oklahoma City and sewed scarves for cancer patients.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kingfisher, where she was baptized, married, and where her life will be celebrated this Friday.
She is survived by her husband, Clifton. Other surviving family members include daughter Jerrie (Greg) Duffy of Piedmont; son Rick (Akiko) Verhines of Plano, Texas; son Steve (Sheila) Verhines of Chickasha; two brothers, Malvin (Jneanne) Kadavy of Kingfisher and Stanley (Elaine) Kadavy of Loyal; two sisters, Norma Fetzer of Bethany, and Mary Jane (Don) Svejkovsky of Yukon; sister-in-law Vivian Hawkins of Enid; sister-in-law Sandy Kadavy of Oklahoma City; and grandchildren Lori (Chris) Phillips of Piedmont; Michael Verhines of Chickasha; Lisa (Chris) Ritchie of Jenks; Garett Verhines of Chickasha; Lacey (Mauricio) Cremer of Dallas, Texas; Dustin (Anne) Verhines of Hamburg, Germany; Aaron Verhines of Blanchard; Jennifer Verhines of San Francisco, California; and Ashley Verhines of New York City, New York; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Milton Kadavy and Fred Kadavy; sister-in-law Nadine Kadavy; brother-in-law Bob Fetzer; brother-in-law Frances Floyd Hawkins; sister-in-law Lorene Hill; and both of her parents.
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Kingfisher Building Fund, 102 South Main Street, P.O. Box 165, Kingfisher, Oklahoma 73750.
A funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at Kingfisher United Methodist Church, 102 South Main Street, Kingfisher, OK, USA.
