Norm Carlson "Pops" Obituary

Our father, Norm Carlson "Pops" of Titusville, Fla., passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015, from complications of congestive heart failure. Dad was born in Meno, Okla., on Feb. 12, 1934, and was very proud of his Okie heritage. He and mom were married for 51 years and are finally reunited in heaven. He and mom were married for 51 years and are finally reunited in heaven. Dad was very proud of his children, Chris Carlson of Denver, Colo., Jodi (daughter) and Mike Juretich of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Bobbie Lu (daughter) and Todd Turner of Titusville, Fla. Dad loved and adored his three grandchildren, Grace Carlson, Brandon Gorrell and C.J. Turner. And of course, his constant companion, Angel, his 13-year-old Westie dog. Dad was an avid fisherman his entire life. He served two years in the Army and then had a successful career with NASA, working on the Saturn, Apollo and Space Shuttle missions as launch vehicle test director and chief test director. Dad may be best remembered for his Launch Beans tradition. He started the tradition of serving "launch beans" and cornbread after every successful launch. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Indian River City United Methodist Church, 1355 Cheney Hwy., Titusville, Fla. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the church service at the Elks Lodge, 2955 Columbia Blvd., Titusville, Fla. The family will hold a private burial ceremony later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, we encourage thoughtful donations to the Hospice of St. Francis Inc., 1250-B Grumman Place, Titusville, FL 32780, or the U.S. Space Walk of Fame Museum, 308 Pine Street, Titusville, FL 32796.
