Mary Ann Bartley McCarthy
November 27, 1923 - November 18, 2019
Mary Ann Bartley McCarthy was born 11/27/1923 in Drummond, Oklahoma, to William Clifford Bartley and Stella Florence Williams. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on 11/18/2019 in Campbell, California.
Mary was loved by many, admired by all. She spent her life in pursuit of higher education. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with an engineer degree in a time when women were not easily accepted in
the field. With tenacity and courage she was able to overcome all obstacles that might have been discouraging to others. She spent her outstanding career working on multiple projects, including the Mars Rover, of which she was quite proud.
She was a member of the Society of Women Engineers and spent her retirement years joyfully mentoring and guiding young students into the engineering field. She had a positive impact on the lives of many young women through her tireless efforts.
Her greatest love was her dedication to the Lord. She felt embraced by his love and shared his love with all she knew. Her quiet, loving demeanor was felt and appreciated by all who were fortunate to be in her presence.
Mary is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Morales, her sister Ella Dean George and multiple relatives and friends living throughout Oklahoma, Arizona, Colorado and California. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Clifford and Stella Bartley; her sisters, Florence Lorene Mitchell, Eugene Bartley and Jesse Bartley; and her husband, Joseph M. McCarthy died in 1983.
She will be greatly missed and always remembered. She was a treasure to all who had been blessed to know her.
