Lawson grew up in Harlingen, Texas, and graduated from Pan AM University with a degree in political science. He then enlisted in the Air Force, and after completing Officer Candidate School he went on to earn his wings, graduating pilot training from Webb Air Force Base, Big Spring, Texas. In the Air Force, he flew the B-52 and went on to shape young pilots as an Instructor Pilot at Vance Air Force Base. He often commented on how flying the T-37 was one of his favorite assignments. Additionally, Lawson flew the C-5 in the USAF Reserves, from which he eventually retired after 22 years of service. Upon retirement from the military, Lawson began his new career as a pilot for American Airlines. He eventually retired as Captain on the Boeing 757/767. Once he returned to Enid full time, he flew a Pilatus PC12 for WB Johnson Grain & Seed until 2005, when he retired for the 3rd and final time.
Lawson loved to cook, bake, grill, and enjoyed spending time in his backyard. He enjoyed being around family, friends and his home.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn House; 2 sons, Christopher (April) House and Jonathan (Stephanie); 2 grandchildren, Bailey and Braeden House; his brother, Dennis House (Karen) and their son Justin. Lawson was known as Uncle Blossom to Heather (Billy) Hiser and Shannon (Mark) Briley, and as Uncle Papa to Lyric and Teagan Brown and Austyn and Haleigh Hiser.
