LaVerna Riffel Beltz, age 86, of Enid, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025, in Enid, Oklahoma, due to a short illness. She lived a long and fulfilling life.
LaVerna was born at home in Carrier, Oklahoma, to Albert and Lily (Belz) Riffel. She graduated from Loma Linda University in California in 1961 with a BSN in nursing.
She married the love of her life Dr. Harold Beltz, Jr. in 1971. She served others through the churches they pastored and as a nurse in each area. She retired from nursing after 50 years of service. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women, 1979-1980, and The World Who's Who of Women, 1980. For almost 30 years she served as church organist and leader of Women's Ministry at the Enid Seventh-Day Adventist Church, passionately and compassionately advocating for women's personal and spiritual needs.
LaVerna had a deep love for her Lord and Savior and blessed many lives with her love and compassion. She was a loyal friend and had many beloved friends near and far. Many she kept in contact with until her death. She will be greatly missed.
LaVerna is survived by her loving niece, Barbara Long, of Osage, Oklahoma, and nephew, Delbert Joyner and wife Becky, of Carrier, Oklahoma; step-daughters, Patsy Sogioka and Linda Richards and husband Gregg, both of Carrier, Oklahoma; step-grandchildren, Michael Sogioka, Kimberly Buhler and husband Josh; great-nieces, Debra Dugan, Jonica Madison, Jennifer Shim; great-nephew, Jody Joyner; and many other beloved great-great nieces and nephews.
Following the death of her beloved parents, Albert and Lily Riffel, she became a farm owner in the Carrier, Oklahoma, area. Her greatest delight, besides her love of the Lord and family, was harvest time.
LaVerna is also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold Beltz; sister, Alberta Joyce Becker; stepson, Norman Sogioka; and great-nephew, Jordan Madison.
