Gwen Willits was born April 9, 1955, to Orville R. and Lois L. Bjerke in Austin, Minnesota, and passed away June 26, 2023, in Fairview, Oklahoma.
Gwen graduated from Weatherford High School and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she obtained her degree in Business Administration. While attending SWOSU, Gwen met Dan Willits, and they fell in love. Gwen and Dan were married on September 10, 1977, in Weatherford, OK, and remained married for the next 45 years. After graduation they moved to Oklahoma City where both were employed in the oil and gas business. In 1979 Gwen and Dan started their own oil and gas lease brokerage company and settled down in the Village of Oklahoma City, where they were blessed with two children, Macci and Doug. They were also active members of the Village Christian Church.
In 1988 Dan and Gwen chose to move their young family to Fairview, Oklahoma. With generations of family history and land in Major County, they wanted to raise their children in the Willits family agrarian heritage, while taking advantage of Fairview's outstanding school system. Gwen and Dan purchased the home built by Dan's parents, Verne and Betty Willits, where they continued creating many family memories in the house Dan grew up in.
Gwen was an active member of Central Christian Church, where she served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and youth sponsor with her husband. Gwen served on the Fairview Board of Education from 1996 to 2016, as Chairman of the PTA Reflections Program for 3 years, as a member of the Fairview Chamber of Commerce, as director of the Chamber of Commerce 5k Boot Scoot'n Run for 7 years, and as Chamber President in 1999. Gwen also served on the Major County Economic Development Board, Fairview Fellowship Home Board, and as a member of P.E.O.
In addition to Gwen's many achievements and endeavors throughout her lifetime, Gwen's true calling was making people smile and laugh through one of her singalong songs, goofy dances, hilarious costumes, or elaborate fibs. She never hesitated to help someone in need, whether a member of her church, a friend, or even a perfect stranger. She loved and supported her family unconditionally. She was everyone's friend and truly loved by all.
Gwen is survived by her loving husband Dan; Daughter, Michaella (Macci) Lovell and her husband Austen; Son, Douglas Willits; grandchildren, Weston Lovell, Brynlee Lovell and Avery Lovell; and brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Carolyn Bjerke, and their son, Clayton Bjerke.
