Glorene May McSwain Kirk passed into eternity on July 5, 2018, at her home in Stillwater after a long life of courageous living. Her life and faith will be celebrated at a graveside service at the Pond Creek Cemetery Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. A family visitation will be Monday, July 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater.
Mrs. Kirk was born in Nash, Oklahoma, the first child of Clarence and Mabel Hayes Brown on February 21, 1921. She graduated from Nash High School in 1939 and attended Tulsa Business College after the death of her husband Joe McSwain.
She married Joe Kelly McSwain at Pond Creek after high school graduation in 1939, and they worked together building the McSwain Motor Company automobile dealership, selling Chevrolet cars and trucks until 1954. They were both members of First Baptist Church in Pond Creek, and she was a member of the Eastern Star Auxiliary. They moved near Pawnee and were active in First Baptist Church, Pawnee and Morrison High School activities. Following Joe's death in 1969, she moved to Stillwater from their home in Tulsa and worked at Nina's near the OSU campus. She married Dale Kirk in 1972 and moved to Pond Creek where she taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church, opened a new flower shop and worked with Dale in farming and managing rental property in Enid. After his death, she moved to Stillwater and became active at First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Kirk was predeceased by her daughter Sharon Elaine McSwain Monroe of Macon, GA; two younger brothers A.C. (Nell) Brown and Rex (Mary) Brown; a sister June (Edward) Johnson, and sister Phyllis Ewers of Ponca City.
She is survived by son Larry (Rebecca Sue) McSwain of Alpharetta, GA; son-in-law Patrick Monroe of Macon, GA; son Rick (Janis) McSwain of Morrison; stepchildren David Kirk of Pond Creek, Dalene Kirk Hanson of Edmond, Grace Kirk Holden of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Laura McSwain (Charles) Lanford of Johns Creek, GA, Michael McSwain (Kelli) of Dayton, KY, Shaye Monroe (Victor) Michael of Macon, GA, Sayer (Michelle) Monroe of Katy, TX, Kimberley (Kyle) Hansen of Edmond, and David McSwain (April) of Stillwater; great-grandchildren Hanna McSwain, Dillon McSwain, Joshua Lanford, Luke Lanford, Charles Dean Lanford, Sarah Michael, Connor Monroe, Katie Monroe, Caleb Monroe, Morgan Hansen, Zack Hansen, Nate McSwain, Ian McSwain; and many, nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorial gifts be given in Glorene's name to First Baptist Church in Stillwater, 701 S. Duncan, Stillwater, OK 74074
