Enid, OK - The services celebrating and honoring the life of Dr. Earl Harris Mabry, 105, of Enid, Oklahoma, will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025. The service will be at the First Presbyterian Church, Enid, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, a life celebration home.

Earl was born January 22, 1920, to Dr. Earl Winters and Eula Clyde Mabry in Mangum, Oklahoma. Earl was delivered by his father at home!

Earl grew up in Altus, Oklahoma, and graduated from Altus High School in 1937. He attended New Mexico Military Institute and graduated from Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois, with B.S. degree. He received a Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree from University of Missouri College of Dentistry, Kansas City. Later in life, he earned a master's degree in creative writing from University of Central Oklahoma.

Earl had the unique experience of serving in three military branches. After High School he volunteered for the 45th Division Oklahoma National Guard and guarded President Roosevelt's train while he was in Oklahoma. Following dental school, Earl served as a Naval dentist in World War II. He later set up a private dental practice in Enid, Oklahoma, but was recalled by the Air Force when the Korean War began. Returning to Enid, he practiced dentistry for fifty years at the Dental Arts Building.

In 1942, Earl married Jean Caldwell in Wooster, Ohio, and together they raised nine children: retired AF Major General Wynn Mabry, of Davidson, North Carolina; Dr. Jim and Betsy Mabry, of Enid; Madelyn and David Keck, of Enid; Marshall and Sara Mabry, of Bedminster, New Jersey; Dr. Jeff and Anne Mabry, of San Antonio, Texas; Jay and Janie Mabry, of South Lake, Texas; John and Shelly Mabry, of Edmond, Oklahoma; Dr. Tad and Jill Mabry, of Rockwood, Tennessee; and Joan and Tracy Dodds, of Enid, Oklahoma.

In 1992 Earl was selected Oklahoma Dentist of the Year. He also was editor of the Oklahoma Dental Journal for twelve years and President of the American Association of Dental Editors for two years. Earl was President of the Enid AMBUCS and Enid Rotary Club. He enjoyed being a member of Enid Crimestoppers for five years and an ambassador for the Enid Chamber of Commerce for over twenty years.

Earl's legacy includes twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. In 2000, Earl's children donated an Oak tree in their parent's memory to Government Springs Park in Enid.

Jean, his wife of sixty years and mother of his children, died in 2002. In 2007, Earl married Carol Hoberecht, with whom he found companionship and joy for eighteen years.

Earl was an elder and Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church. He also coached his children's numerous football, baseball, and basketball teams.

Earl was an early advocate of recycling, good nutrition, and physical fitness. He always exhibited a cheerful outlook and enjoyed life. He will be missed by family, friends, and all who knew him. Earl was nicknamed "Doc" to many family members and community friends. Many of the grandchildren call him Doc, as well as children of the bridge club and many older friends.

Memorials may be given in his name to First Presbyterian Church, The Salvation Army, or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
