Burlington, Oklahoma - Funeral services for Betty Ragains will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Driftwood Christian Church, with Rev. Virgil Eubanks officiating. Burial will follow in the Hawley Cemetery in Grant County under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home. There will be a visitation with family present on Sunday, December 15, from 4-6:00 p.m.

Betty Gayle Ragains was born March 23, 1942, to George Fredrick and Edna Marie (Huffman) Hill in Cherokee, Oklahoma, and passed away December 11, 2024, in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 18 days.

She attended Byron-Driftwood School, graduating in 1960 as the class valedictorian. While in high school she met Herschel Leon Ragains, and the two were united in marriage on August 26, 1959, at the Waldron Christian Church in Waldron, Kansas, the summer between Betty's junior and senior year. In 1961, they welcomed a son, Bradley Leon, and a daughter, Ronda Ralyn, was born in 1964. They lived in Driftwood and Cherokee before moving to Burlington in 1971.

Betty worked at the cafe in town for awhile, and she even drove a school bus at one time. She attended VoTech in Alva for bookkeeping, and in the late 1970's she achieved her lifelong goal of being a secretary when she went to work for Hal Brizzolara. She absolutely loved being a secretary, and for years, even after she retired, she still had most clients' phone numbers memorized.

Betty loved to cook, and was quite the accomplished seamstress. She was also an avid refunder. She was a member of the Domesticates and WheatHearts Home Extension Groups, and she recently received recognition for 50 years of membership. She was very proud of her many champion ribbons she earned for sewing and cooking.

Betty also served for about 30 years on the local election board in Burlington. She was a longtime member of the Driftwood Christian Church. She was always happy to share her many talents to help her friends and family.

Besides her parents, George and Edna, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel, and her brother, Bob Hill.

She is survived by her son, Bradley Ragains and wife, LeeAnn, of Kingfisher; her daughter, Ronda Zimmerman and husband, Brad, of Ringwood; three granddaughters, Leticia Parker of Oklahoma City, Lakin Kastl and husband, Zack, of Yukon, and Kalei Schmidt and husband, Danny, of Waynoka; a grandson, Tyson Kirkendall and wife, Krystin, of Blanchard; three great-grandsons, Cameron Parker, Kashton Mouton, and Koen Kirkendall; and six great-granddaughters, Kaila Curtsinger, Rhyleigh Curtsinger, Macie Curtsinger, Ella Kirkendall, Andi Kirkendall, and Wilsy Kastl.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Driftwood Christian Church or the Burlington Education Foundation.
