Text size

Robert Leroy Snyder was born Dec. 2, 1937, in Wichita, Kan., and peacefully passed away June 12, 2017, at home in Garland, Texas, after a courageous two year battle with lung cancer.
Snyder was the youngest of 14 children born to his parents Ernest Henry and Hellen Augusta Norris Snyder.
In his senior year at West High School, Bob joined the U.S. Coast Guard May 5, 1955, and completed his GED. He served our country from May 5, 1955, until he was honorably discharged on May 6, 1959.
He served in the Pacific on a 40' Coast Guard cutter, the Buttonwood, and told of harrowing rescues and several search and retrieves and 50' tidal waves to his cutter and near-death experiences during his four years of active service. He was also stationed in Hawaii and in Louisiana.
After military service, Snyder returned home to Wichita, Kan., and met and married the love of his life, Marilyn Joyce Tebow Snyder on August 12, 1960. They embarked on a life together that spanned nearly 57 years, and which included three sons, one daughter-in-law and one granddaughter.
Bob was a salesman's salesman. He always exceeded every challenge and was usually 1st in all contests and won many awards and trips. He worked many years in furniture and appliance sales for Furniture Warehouse until 1971, and for Montgomery Ward in Wichita, Kan., from 1972 until 1976, and as Furniture Manager in Billings, Mont. from 1976 to 1980. He also worked for Levitz Furniture in Dallas, Texas, 1980-1998.
Bob was an excellent husband and father and was very active. He  got up very early and helped his two young sons with their paper routes. Bob attended their PTA meetings at school and was very proud of them. His sons share his love for sales and love of family. They are happy and successful sons and are very close to their father and family.
Snyder is survived by his devoted ex-wife, Marilyn, of their home in Garland, Texas, three wonderful sons, one devoted daughter-in-law, one treasured granddaughter, and one older sibling, and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Snyder leaves behind his little therapy dog "Boomer".
Sons: Steven Bradley Snyder, Steve's wife Alice, their daughter, Danielle Snyder of Garland, Texas; Bruce Montgomery Snyder of Carrollton, Texas, Robert Lance Snyder of Frisco, Texas, and Bob's one remaining sibling, his older sister, Patsy Lou Snyder Safley of Price, Utah.
