Henry Clay Sander Jr. better known to all as Jerry, was born on May 2, 1935, on the family home place west of Seiling to Henry Clay and Ina Maye (Webb) Sander. He departed this life on June 6, 2017 surrounded by his family at the Seiling Municipal Hospital. Jerry attended Seiling Public Schools.
On July 11, 1954, he was united in marriage to Julia Lee Cain, and they were the last couple to be married at the Cestos Assembly of God Church. This union was one month shy of 63 years. He raised four children, Billy Clyde, Judy LeAnn, Shelley DeLyn, and Pamela JoLene.
One of their first and not a great adventure, says Julia, was running a grocery store on the west side of Main Street in Seiling. Jerry later started to work for his brother driving a truck. In 1965, they started Sander Trucking Company Inc., which they operated together until 1975. After selling the trucking company, he and Gene Ward started S&W Oil which they operated for many years.
Jerry would work hard and long hours to provide for his family. Many hours were spent in those trucks, on which he always would let his children ride along.
In 1983, Jerry and Julie opened Julie's Glass and Jerry's Junk at their home and then later moved the business to 610 N. Main in Seiling. They enjoyed traveling to antique shows and auctions where they bought and restored furniture and unique antiques.
Jerry continued to farm and in 1994, they moved to the farm northwest of Seiling. He was instrumental in starting Seiling's first cable company and also served his community on the hospital board for many years.
Throughout Jerry's life, he had many hobbies, but his favorite was farming, which he started at a very young age to help support his mother and family. He would spend countless hours in that green 4440 tractor. He enjoyed teaching his grandsons and granddaughter how to drive the tractor, bail the hay and haul it to the house.
Jerry was first a loving and giving husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and great-great-grandpa.
Jerry is survived by his wife Julia; son Bill Sander and wife Joy and their children, Scott Sander and wife Tobi, Chris Sander and wife Maria, and Kristy McCurley and husband Brandon; daughter LeAnn Walters and husband Allen, and their children Dustin Hunter and Aaron Walters; daughter Shelley Bain and husband Steve, and their children Andrew, Kelsey and John Bain; and daughter Pam Nichols and husband Michael, and their children Jeremy Nichols and wife Sara, Zachary Nichols and wife Rochelle, and Bethaney Carlisle and husband Blake; 16 great-grandchildren, Dylan and Haden Sander, Hayley and Brooklyn Sander, Chase and Abby McCurley, Kalieb House and partner Marissa Bryant, Koeby House, Kaidence Hunter, Benjamin Bain, Jake and Atley Nichols, Lyndlea and Jaxon Nichols, Ava and Jett Blu Carlisle; one great-grandchild Knox House; three sisters Christine Parson, Peggy Harrel and husband Beans, and Beverly Autrey; and his caregivers Clay and Ka'lea Blackburn and their children Lakeyn Nicole and Launi Jean.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother- and father-in-law Belle and Noble Cain, one granddaughter Amy Lee House, seven brothers, five sisters and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made in Jerry's name to the Seiling Ambulance Service or the Mutual Christian Church with Redinger Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
