Lester Loren McKeeman passed away on March 2, 2018, at the Wakita Community Health Center. Lester was born on his family's farm outside of Jefferson.
He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1945, and went on to earn a degree in Divinity at Phillips University in Enid.
While there, he married Velma Holman in 1947, and they had one daughter, Nancy.
Lester was a minister in several churches in Kansas and Illinois while furthering his studies in divinity, and later in education. He began teaching in 1963, primarily in Sedgwick, Kansas.
In 1974, the decision was made to move to and begin operating the family farm. While farming, Lester opened a cabinet shop in Pond Creek and became the minister at the Congregational Church of Medford.
After closing the shop and later retiring from the church, Lester continued to farm, garden, and enjoy family until his passing.
Lester is survived by wife Velma McKeeman, daughter Nancy and Johnny Moats, Chickasha; grandchildren, Teresa Geary, Enid, Michael and Kristi Nelson, Pratt, Kansas, and Daniel Nelson, Littleton, Colorado; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters; Ruth McElroy, Enid, and Julia Welch, Wichita, Kansas.
A memorial service is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Les Washnock officiating.
