A memorial service for Helen Nobis, 78, Enid, is 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Wade officiating.
Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.
Helen was born Nov. 16, 1938, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Leonard Walter and Hertha Louise (Stahmer) Benkendorf, and passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017, in Enid.
Helen attended school in Bakersfield, Calif., and Drummond. She later graduated in 1956, from Hennessey High School.
She attended Oklahoma College for Women, Chickasha, and Oklahoma State University, where she graduated with a BSE in 1960.
Helen married Donald Dean Nobis on April 22, 1961, in University City, Mo. She taught elementary school in Missouri at St. Louis, Pattonville, and Ferguson-Florissant, and at Scottsboro, Ala.
They were both lifelong Lutherans. Helen was active in the LWML, the New Comers Women's Group in Alabama, and AAUW.
In 2004, they moved to Enid, and joined St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Helen is survived by her husband, Don; children Leschen Hamner (Michael) of Alabama, Eric Nobis of Texas; daughter-in-law Sharon Nobis of Texas; grandchildren, James Hamner (Chelsea) of Florida, Lindsay Hamner of Alabama, Tyler Nobis, Taylor Otto (Andrew), and Trevor Nobis, all of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Richard Nobis, sister Mildred Eberhart, and brother Stanley Stahmer.
