Funeral service for Elna Mae Schupbach is 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at the Alva Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Aaron Wagner officiating. Interment will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery near Burlington under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.
Elna Mae Schupbach, daughter of the late Dirk H. and Emma (Oelerking) Rathjen, was born May 13, 1925, near Lahoma in Garfield County, Oklahoma, and passed away August 13, 2017, at Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 92 years and 3 months.
Elna Mae graduated from Lahoma High School. She worked in Enid at the dairy.
On July 11, 1949, she was united in marriage to Milferd Schupbach at Lahoma.
They moved to Burlington where she operated a grocery store for 10 years and was also a homemaker.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. She was an accomplished artist and painted many pictures. She also liked making ceramics and hook rugs, one requiring 2 years to complete.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Arnold, Harold, Eldor, Orville, and Bill Rathjen; and one sisters, Lorena Rathjen.
Elna Mae is survived by her husband, Milferd Schupbach of Burlington; one son, Tom Schupbach and wife, Sherry, of Ellinwood, Kan.; and one daughter, Peggy Dowell and husband, David, of Cleo Springs; three grandchildren, Bradley and wife, Brandi, of Gilmer, Texas, Samuel and wife, Niki, of Parker, Colo., and Randall of Olathe, Kan.; and five great-grandchildren, Braden Klose, and Sierra, Saige, Asher, and Samantha Schupbach; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Zion Lutheran Church or the Burlington Education Foundation.
