Albert's Story

Text size

Born 12/18/1925 in Riga, Latvia, to Albert and Elfie (Lipphardt) Ramseyer, Swiss nationals. Until the outbreak of WWll in September 1939, Albert lived in Riga.
At the outbreak of war, the family moved to Bern, Switzerland. Albert studied the family trade and apprenticed as a confectioner and baker. He worked in Bern, Geneva, and Montreux, Switzerland.
In 1925, he emigrated to North America. At first, he worked in Winnipeg, Canada. Upon hearing of opportunities in a warmer climate and having waited the required time to legally immigrate, he emigrated to southern California. There he worked for the Van DeKamp's company as a confectioner and baker.
He met and married the love of his life Elsbeth (Betty) Rutschi, also a Swiss national, on October 22, 1955, in Los Angeles, California. They settled in Glendale, California where they raised their family.
Albert had an avid interest in real estate, managing duplexes, apartment buildings, and commercial properties the rest of his life.
Upon retiring from the baking industry, Albert and Betty travelled the world. They drove a camper to Alaska and the Yukon three times, and then to the Panama Canal twice. They also drove around Africa, and visited Asia and Australia.
After moving to St. Petersburg, Florida, for a few years, they settled in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the remainder of their lives.
Albert passed peacefully from this life February 7, 2018, in Las Vegas. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsbeth Ramseyer, and grandson, Albert Joseph (AJ) Ramseyer.
He is survived by his sons, Albert Ramseyer and wife, Francyne Vezina of Glendale, CA; Chris Ramseyer and wife, Karen Barker of Norman; and Lorenz (Larry) Ramseyer and wife Christine of Drummond.
He is also survived by four grandsons, and grand-daughter-in-law, and two great-granddaughters.
The family would like to thank the staff and communities of the Nelson Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas, Atria Living Center of Las Vegas, and The Commons of Enid for their loving care during the last year of his life.
